Meet Champion - a gorgeous chestnut gelding, and his owner, Charlotte. It was one of the hottest days of the year so we all got up early and met about 7am to try and beat the heat. We were spoiled with a beautiful hazy sun-rise that turned Champion's coat a vivid golden colour.
"He's my 'barbie horse' and has given so much. Despite being incredibly quirky with numerous hang-ups he jumped his heart out for me."
Charlotte and Champion enjoyed showjumping before he had to retire due to an injury. His injuries had sadly caught up to him, and shortly after the shoot, Charlotte was going to be saying goodbye to him.
Charlotte said that she didn't have many photographs of him and her together, other than the event photographs from the shows they attended, so she'd like me to capture their relationship and love that had grown over the years. Once we'd finished the portrait shots, Charlotte unclipped his leadrope and we stood together in the golden light watching Champion leap and buck around the paddock. He was a beautiful boy, and a pleasure to photograph. I hope the photographs serve as great memories for you over the years Charlotte.
