Who, What, Where, When, Why...?

Who am I? I'm Rose, a little bit shy when I'm not around horses, I'm a life-long equestrian, I'm a dressage enthusiast. I love spending time in the countryside, much to my Mum's annoyance, (and Dad's delight!) I'm a Welsh Rugby supporter, I love crime dramas and I love anything that's chocolate covered, coated or flavoured! And I know, that a horse, is more than "just a horse."

What do I do? I'm an equine photographer. I'm a story teller, I don't just click buttons: I immortalise characters, I capture moments in time, I record the memories that can't be forgotten, or the details easily missed. I balance the light with the dark, I strive to create images with emotion - to encapsulate the love, the adoration, the dedication and pride in being able to call your horse, a friend, a part of you.

“If the photographer is interested in the people in front of his lens, and if he is compassionate, it’s already a lot. The instrument is not the camera but the photographer.”

Where do I travel? I live in Reading, Berkshire, right on the borders of quite a few different counties. This puts me in the perfect position to cover Hampshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucester. Last year saw me travel to Holland, Scotland and up to Lincolnshire. I'll pretty much go anywhere where there's a horse or pony to cuddle!

When? All year round, yes, even in winter. At your yard, home, or favourite location - in all seasons.

Why? Well that's easy, because I simply love horses, and adore what I do. I love getting to know each and every horse and owner that I photograph, each with their own tales to tell. I am passionate about what I do - I understand the joy, value, and comfort that a photograph can bring. Horses are the most amazing, trusting, noble friends, that we are lucky to be able to spend time with. They give us so much more than we can ever give them - companionship, confidence, friendship, loyalty, trust and freedom, an escape. And as any other equestrian will confirm, they shape our lives in to what they are today, even if they drive us mad on the odd occasion!

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”

Photographs by the insanely lovely and talented Amy Thomson who had the challenge of capturing myself and Dolly last year, and did so, so brilliantly.
